Nagisa Shirai (白井 渚 Shirai Nagisa) is a young boy who has a crush on Hanon Hōshō. He first appeared in Episode 55 of the anime and first met Hanon in Episode 58.
History[]
Nagisa met Hanon at the airport when Tarō Mitsuki left, Hanon dropped her music sheet that Tarō gave to her, and Nagisa picked it up in Episode 55. Later he replied that if she goes out with him then he would give her back the music sheet. Later, she began to fall in love with him after he had been so kind to her. In the last episode of pure they sing together along with the rest of the cast.
Appearance[]
Nagisa has messily styled dark blue hair and grey eyes. For school he adheres to the standard male uniform, consisting of a white shirt and blue trousers. His usual outfit consists of a long sleeved striped shirt with a short sleeve shirt serving as a jacket and knee-length pants. His beach outfit consists of the same shorts and shoes, and a sleeveless striped vest of similar pattern to his regular shirt.
In Episode 69 he is seen wearing a tuxedo on a date with Hanon.
Personality[]
Nagisa is very childish which leads to Hanon often insulting and complaining about him. He can also be hot headed and jumps to conclusions such as when he thought Masahiro was asking Hanon out when he was actually asking Rina out instead, but nevertheless he is brave and likes to try new things to impress Hanon and show how "manly" he is. Compared to Tarō, Nagisa does not have special talents or powers, but he always tries his best to make Hanon laugh and to show how much he loves her, which Hanon admires and eventually learned that it was love he was giving her.
Etymology[]
Together, his name means "Seashore White Well" or "Seashore Shark-related."
- The name Nagisa means "beach, shore, water's edge" (渚).
- Nagisa's surname Shirai means "white" (白) (shira) and "well, mine shaft, pit" (井) (i).

- Nagisa is a freshman, as mentioned in Episode 58.
- His name is unisex, but more common among females.
- Nagisa is mostly used for females in Italy, so to avoid confusion of his gender, the Italian version called him by his last name "Shirai".
